Jean-Paul Ponthot

Director of Ecole supérieure de l’Ecole d’art d’Aix-en-Provence

Jean-Paul PONTHOT has been directing the Ecole Supérieure d’Art d’Aix-en-Provence, (ESAAix), Public Establishment of Cultural Cooperation, since 1999. He is the coordinator of the school’s research unit in sound art, Locus Sonus. The ESAAix teaching and research is well known for its focus on the relations between art, science and technology as well as its transdiciplinary approach.

Jean-Paul PONTHOT holds a Master’s degree in cultural projects direction from Sciences Po Grenoble as well as an « agregation » in social sciences (competitive examination in French education system). He also led a third-cycle research about musical experimentation in the 20th century, for which he often is invited as lecturer.

He is the President of the association for innovating musics, AMI, based in Marseille, organizor of the MIMI festival (International Movement for Innovating Music)

Between 1989 and 1999, he was a programme leader and advisor for the French Ministry of Culture, and therefore received the French honorary title of « Chevalier des arts et des lettres ».
